Monitoring continues on the Salmon Creek Estuary Restoration Project:

Pre and Post-project monitoring will help determine the biological success of the restoration. Often the area will look restored to the naked eye, but the sediment or soil for example may need further mitigation.

Work is completed !!! --

A great picture above, an aerial view taken on 9/29/08 -- shows both new estuary areas flooded with incoming tide...
Tidal waters begin to fill the new channel for the first time...
It is hot today, and dust from the moving excavators hovers above... It will settle soon as work is completed...
The left edge at 8.0 tide...

Today, the South site is finished!!!!!!!
With great anticipation and excitement, we watch the first tidal waters creep up over the new new marsh ---!!!

Here we go...!

And the tide is in!! Life is already beginning to make it's home in the new waters, even on the first day ~ Great blue heron, killdeer and other birds and salamander footprints are revealed following the tide going out this first day...

Making themselves at home in their new habitat...

Excavation continues on the south site. Areas with higher elevations yet need to be brought to lower elevation in order to avoid pooling. All major tidal channels are completed.
Excavation on the north site is nearly completed. What is left is final grading - all major and minor channels are in...

Final steps once these tasks are done will be to carefully reconnect tidal channels to the bay, and remove the berm...!
